On Saturday, I packed up a picnic of tuna wraps, dill pickles, potato chips and iced tea and headed down to the river with Sean.

What used to be a little stream that we had to cross on a log is now a large pond thanks to some handy beavers.

This is part of the "bridge" used to cross the pond. There isn't enough support under them though so we got a little wet...

Sean made a bunch of noise...you know the trick...grass between your fingers and then blow. FUN!

Besides being attacked by mosquitoes (quick fix with some afterbite) we had a lovely time!

Lindeman Lake

Saturday was a beautiful, sunny day and we decided, late in the afternoon, that it was too nice a day to spend inside. We went for a little hike up to Lindeman Lake.

This is the easy part of the path, walking down to what used to be the parking lot.Don't be a litterbug! Pack your garbage out!The beautiful lake!What a great way to spend a few hours.

Spring is such a beautiful time! So many flowers blooming and birds singing.
This spring I'm enjoying being able to wear shorts and t-shirts already. I wonder what summer will bring.
My mom and nephew and I spent some time in a wonderful woman's garden at the end of April. This woman has been a friend of our family for as long as I can remember and has always had such beautiful flowers in her garden. My camera enjoyed the tour!

We went downtown and watched filming of Eureka for a while.
James Callis (of Battlestar Galactica), a new character on the next season, chattin' with Allison Blake (Salli Richardson-Whitfield).

Not the nicest picture of Salli...unfortunately I chickened out and didn't take a picture of her when she was standing a few feet away. :( But check out those heels!! Don't Judge

I shook my head after reading the big yellow print.It is not our job to judge the size of a family.
While I think the Duggar's probably make some good cash hosting a reality tv show, i'm about 99% positive that's not why they're still growing their family.
A tv show only gives a small glimpse into daily family life but from what I've seen, the Duggar family has things under control. More orderly and loving than some families that have, say, one or two children.
We have no right to judge what is right for another family.

One of my Christmas gifts this last year was a cute little Precious Moments nativity. Apparently baby Jesus was swaddled in heart print fabric...and one of the shepherds has a little patch on his outfit. I know, the wisemen didn't show up until much later but these guys are super cute!

Yes, I still play with my food. I made eggs on toast and farmer sausage man for my wonderful husband for breakfast. And decided to never, ever use this frying pan again unless it is an emergency. It was quite black by the time the sausage was fried up. Non-stick works much better!

Back in October I was driving up to work and thought that maybe the neighbours had a new lawn ornament. Turns out it was a real deer hangin' out eating grass and bushes. I guess that's what happens when you cut down most of the trees on a mountain and put in tons of houses.

One of our many walks along the river...only this time, I remembered to bring my camera! I'm really glad I did because I think this was the closest I've ever been to a Heron. I think it was watching all the crazy fishermen who all seem to fish in the same spot around here. I'm surprised the fishermen don't get their lines all tangled together.

Goodbye Rodeo

On the 8th we said goodbye to our lovely red Rodeo. It was a sad day! The truck has taken us on many adventures and helped a lot when we moved. There were just too many things wrong with it though and we couldn't get the right parts.
Here we are at Pick a Part...Sad we have to leave it there.

Lindeman Lake

At the beginning of this month, my wonderful husband and I went for a little hike up to Lindeman Lake.

A pretty, peaceful stream at the beginning of the hike.

This year I've really stopped to look at what's going on outside and I've decided that I actually kind of like fall. What beautiful colors out there!!! Mossy!Somebody has built some strange wooden stage-like things. VERY odd to see in the "middle of nowhere". I guess they're for pitching a tent on??

I'm just wondering how you can go camping and NOT have a fire. And also, the next time we go up there, somebody may have used that sign-post for firewood...just an idea.We could see to the bottom of the lake. Absolutely amazing the color and stillness of that water.

Don't throw your junk in my backyard, my backyard's full. Remember that song from elementary school? It was the song that came to mind when I thought of our backyard and the many things that I've found in it. Besides lots of beautiful flowers, I found a stack of firewood, some stumps, waaay too much ivy and creeper plants and a blackberry bush. Mmmm!

Love the pink and brown color comination! This is my mini rose that I got as a gift. I've managed to keep it alive. :) Plenty of roses.

Date Night

Last night my wonderful husband and I went on a date. We ate some yummy fish and chips.

The bird that watched us eat. It was too good to share though.
We went for a walk.
Sat on a park bench.Watched other people walk. :) Took pictures of us.

Ate some frozen yogurt. :)Observed the little details.And checked out the solar and wind light system. Great idea! We weren't sure if it worked though because it was windy and the propeller never moved.Another beautiful evening.

Chilliwack Lake

On the 15th my wonderful husband and I needed a break. We took a drive in our new 4x4 to Chilliwack Lake. We enjoyed our time lounging on the beach, fishing and reading. :) Took this picture of foxgloves and then.... Sadly, just before we started our hike, my batteries died and I found out that the spares I keep in my bag were also dead. :(
Just before midnight, the power went off at our house. My wonderful husband looked out the window...and this is what we could see. Flames and sparks lighting up the night sky. New, unfinished apartments goin' up in smoke. They are probably about five blocks away.

To celebrate a birthday we went out for lunch...the little man brought his "messenger bag" full of food. Too cute! We had an appointment at the bank today and had some time to kill between lunch and the meeting so we stopped in at mom & dad's. While we were standing outside enjoying the sunshine we saw some humming birds (not quick enough with the camera for those) and a pretty dragonfly with iridescent wings.

Today we went out for breakfast with friends. Since we were in town, we went to look at our favorite place these days (the house we've put an offer on) and then went for a bit of a walk by the river.An almost-ripe salmon berry. We ate the ripe ones. :)One of the beaver dams. It was very peaceful sitting by the river and we were imagining a time when we can walk down from our house and spend hours right here.
On the way home we slowly drove by the old substation so that I could get a picture of this unique home.
It started to rain not long after we got home. What good timing for our little adventure!

On Friday I must have been bored because I tried on my grad dress and got my wonderfulhusband to take a few photos of me. This one is a little blurry, I was probably doing something silly.

In the evening, my wonderfulhusband and I ordered take-out and went and sat by the river to eat.

We had some really tasty ice cream at a local farm and went and visited a cemetery where a relative is buried. This gravestone made me chuckle

And, I guess I really do "have a thing" for angels and fairies. So cute!Life amongst the gravestones, a pretty robin.We ended our evening by going to see The Incredible Hulk at the sweet, old-school theatre downtown. Good movie! And a nice relaxing Friday night!

In Memory Of...

Three years ago today, my little buddy went to be with Jesus. I've been missing him a lot in the last few months. I'm amazed at how time seems to disappear.

I can remember as if it were yesterday, when I got a call from my cousin saying that the little man was gone.

What a happy kid! I had fun hanging out with him in my office at work, playing trains and cars with him, holding him when his tummy was upset from feedings, watching him learn and grasp sign language, seeing the excited look on his face when I came in the door, and teaching him things like "thumbs up".

Nine Months!

So, today, we've been married nine months. More significant than other random month anniversaries because we were married 09/09/07. My wonderful husband showed up at my work today with nine BEAUTIFUL roses and a chai latte from my favorite coffee shop. Mmm, I love that guy and I can't believe how fast time seems to fly by!

A Finished Project...Or Two!!

I finally finished a couple things I've been working on to sell. My sock monkey obsession started just before Christmas last year. We needed Christmas gifts for nieces and nephew and wanted to get them an old-school type gift...we had a few ideas but sock monkey really stuck in my mind. I'd seen them advertised in the newspaper so I figured we'd just find out where to buy a bunch of them. I started searching online for them and that's when I found a really simple tutorial on making them. I bought all the supplies and started sewin'. :) They were so EASY! I've made a bunch more and I'm going to try and sell them at the quilt show this weekend.

The other project I've been working on is pantyliners. A few months back I found the greatest, environmentally friendliest, feminine hygiene product called a Diva Cup. (http://divacup.com/) I'd recommend it for any menstruating woman...if you can handle dealing with what comes outta you. :) They're good for the environment, they've been around since the 1930's, DON'T cause Toxic Shock Syndrome (because they don't strip your body of the natural mucus), have a life of ten years or more and only cost $40! For backup for the cup some genius started creating (ok, probably hundreds of years ago) cloth pantyliners. Which don't get all foul-smelling like store bought liners do. Hurray! I made a few for myself and then kept going. I'm also hoping to sell them this weekend.

Chipmunk Caves

On the 25th my wonderfulhusband and I went on a little adventure to Chipmunk Caves. On our drive up we saw warning signs that bears were in the area...we realized the signs were actually correct when we saw a friendly bear on the side of the road! :)
It started out as a nice warm "hike" but part way to the caves we started to feel raindrops, and then there was thunder and lightning. Woohoo!
By the time we got back to the car (despite our ponchos, which I'm very thankful my wonderfulhusband remembered to bring) we were pretty soggy.

Manning Park

On a beautiful sunny Saturday my wonderfulhusband and I took a drive. Our plan was to go fishing so we headed up to Silver Lake. Because it had been so warm the water was really high and the beaches were covered in water so we continued driving to Manning Park.

At Manning Park we were greeted with a lake that was still frozen over and lots of snow on the ground. We went for a bit of a walk and fed Whiskey Jacks and squirrels of some sort.

I've been a blog-stalker for quite some time now. I've been checking in to see what random people are doing with their lives. Mostly I've enjoyed the tidbits of information that have made my life healthier and happier.
